School information

Trieste, Italy

UWC Adriatic is an esteemed international school located in the picturesque village of Duino, close to Trieste in Northeastern Italy. Catering to students aged 16 to 18, the school offers a unique, transformative final two years of high school education for around 180 students from more than 80 countries. As part of the global United World Colleges (UWC) movement, students are selected based on merit and potential, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where individuals from all walks of life come together. This residential school places a strong emphasis on community living, with students sharing rooms in one of seven residences scattered throughout the village, promoting a sense of togetherness and mutual respect.

UWC Adriatic's co-curricular program is at the heart of the student experience, with initiatives that stress the importance of service to others and community involvement. The school boasts an average class size of 14, ensuring personalized attention and a supportive learning environment, with a maximum class size of 22. Despite the linguistic diversity, where 80% of students are non-native English speakers, all students pursue the rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma in English and study Italian as part of the curriculum. The close-knit community is further strengthened by the presence of teachers who reside in the village and serve as personal and residence tutors. Inspired by the educational philosophy of Kurt Hahn, UWC Adriatic strives to unite people, nations, and cultures for peace and sustainability, preparing students to be proactive and informed global citizens who are committed to making a positive impact on the world.
