United World College Costa Rica, situated in San Jose, is the only UWC institution in Latin America and the Caribbean. This unique college offers a bilingual program designed for students aged 16-18. It provides an enriching environment for students to delve into the social, political, and cultural history of the region. With Costa Rica's legacy of peace, democracy, environmental protection, and the absence of a national military, the college fosters a robust experiential learning curriculum.
The college is currently located in Santa Ana, San Jose, but is transitioning to a new space in San Isidro, Heredia. The new campus will be surrounded by a 40-hectare nature reserve, creating an immersive and transformative educational experience in connection with nature. The existing campus in Santa Ana allows students to actively engage with the local Costa Rican community while still enjoying a natural environment. With an average class size of 15 and a student body of 206, United World College Costa Rica ensures personalized attention and a close-knit learning community.
UWC Costa Rica’s core learning experience is anchored in its Experiential Learning Education, which includes three educational programs aligned with its 5-year Strategic Plan and Sustainability Framework. The school’s maximum class size is 18, promoting an intimate and effective teaching approach.
